Installing MongoDB and Using Mongo Shell

Installing on Windows

Download the MSI installer from the MongoDB website.

Run the installer and follow the prompts to complete installation.

Optionally, configure MongoDB as a Windows service for automatic startup.

• Ensure you add MongoDB's bin directory to your system PATH.
• Verify installation by running 'mongod' and 'mongo' commands in Command Prompt.

Installing on macOS

Use Homebrew for a simple installation: 'brew tap mongodb/brew' and 'brew install mongodb-community'.

Alternatively, download the .tgz archive from the MongoDB website and install manually.

• Start MongoDB using 'brew services start mongodb-community' or manually with 'mongod'.
• Use the Mongo Shell by running 'mongo' in the terminal.

Installing on Linux

Installation depends on your Linux distribution.

For Ubuntu, use apt package manager after adding MongoDB's official repository.

• Run 'sudo apt-get install -y mongodb-org' after repository setup.
• Start MongoDB with 'sudo systemctl start mongod'.
• Use 'mongo' to access the Mongo Shell.

Using Mongo Shell

Mongo Shell is an interactive JavaScript interface to MongoDB.

It allows you to perform database operations such as querying, inserting, updating, and deleting documents.

• Start the shell by running 'mongo' in your terminal or command prompt.
• Use commands like 'show dbs' to list databases and 'use <dbname>' to switch databases.
• CRUD operations are performed with intuitive JavaScript-like syntax.
