Create and Manage Indexes

Create a compound index on the 'products' collection for fields 'category' (ascending) and 'price' (descending). Then drop an existing index on 'name'.

Expected output: A compound index on category and price is created, and the index on name is removed.

Hint: Use createIndex() for creating and dropIndex() for deleting indexes.

MongoDB does not support direct modification of indexes. To change an index, you must drop the existing index using dropIndex() and then create a new index with the desired fields or options.

Proper index management improves query performance, reduces resource usage, and ensures efficient data retrieval. It also helps maintain balanced write performance by avoiding unnecessary indexes.

The command db.collection.getIndexes() lists all indexes on a specified collection.
